After graduating from UCLA with a BA in sociology, native Californian Naomi Karz Jacobs left behind her first love – playwriting – and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she raised her three children and remained for sixteen years. In Baltimore, she was appointed to the Board of Jewish Education and the Board of Citizens’ Committee for Recreation, and became president of the Baltimore Hadassah Chapter IV.
Upon her return to Los Angeles, she received an MA in Sociology of Education at UCLA and took two years of classes in film, television and play writing. She taught in the Inner City schools, LA Trade Technical College and also managed a real estate firm. Naomi has attended the Santa Barbara Writers’ Conference and the Padua Hills Playwrights’ Workshop. She has traveled to Japan, China, Russia, Israel, England, France, Italy, Thailand and Australia. Naomi is the author of Next Year in Jerusalem [a comedy which had a successful run at the Off-Main Street Theatre in Santa Monica, California in 1987] and What A Racquet [a comedy about a men’s tennis foursome which was produced at the Odyssey Theatre, Los Angeles, California and ran from March 22 to May 12, l996]. Among her other plays are The Student, Please Don’t Forget Me, Palisades Park and Jack and Jill. She founded the West Coast Jewish Theatre in 1993 and is still an active Board member. She was elected to the Board of American National Theatre Academy (West) from 1989 to 1992. The playwright is a member of the Dramatist’s Guild, First Stage, Theatre LA, Lehman Engle Musical Workshop, Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and Actors’ Forum. She currently resides in Marina del Rey, California. |
